Thinking About Building a New Website

lens

I’ve just started work on a new website, but haven’t really gotten much done yet. I have so far had a conference with myself and, after much debate, decided that the website was a good idea and that I would hire myself to build it. But you know, bureaucracy and such, has prevented anything more than that from getting done. Oh, except for the above graphic that I put together yesterday. Which is, really, the only reason for this post – just an excuse to put my new little lens icon online. Anywho, the new site will not be bloglike, but rather a simple sales tool for my photography as a means to further my optimistic hope that there might be enough people out there willing to pay me for pictures to make a separate site worthwhile. So, I wouldn’t hold your breath, but with any luck, I might have a new url to hand out at some point in the coming months.

Another Packed Weekend!

Looking Out in Rocky Mountain National Park

Julie and I had another packed weekend. We started out yesterday by checking out one of the sights that was recommended in our guidebook – Dinosaur Ridge, just east of Red Rocks. What a cool place! We took a nice hike up the ridge (which is part of the Dakota Hogback, a stretch of sandstone and other rock layers that was lifted to an angle via the magic of tectonics. As a result of that liftage, layers and layers of fossalized materials are exposed, including the odd dinosaur bone. What a cool way to have geology presented in mural fashion. It was like an exquisitely curated outdoor natural hisotry museum. And as you walked down the road, you went further and further back in time. Neat stuff.

Then, today, Julie called me at 7:30am because her office had had to shut down (she was going to work this morning). So, she told me to get out of bed and exclaimed we were going to go excursioning again today. I was all for that. So, we picked a great looking hike up to Paprika Lake (I think) in Rocky Mountain National Park. Anywho, we had so much fun on the drive, and the weather started looking like it wasn’t going to cooperate (not to mention that we later learned dogs aren’t allowed on the trails in the park) – so we ended up not hiking at all, but just enjoying the drive. We went all the way across US-34, down to Grand Lake (where Julie had a Rocky Mountain Oyster), and then back to I-70 returning to Denver. It was a beautiful loop and an incredible drive.

Anywho, it’s been an incredible weekend. There’s so much to see and explore here and I hope we venture out every chance we get.

Hope you’re all doing well!

Hiking in Colorado

A View from Rabbit Mountain

So, Julie and I decided to get off the couch this Memorial Day weekend and get a few Colorado miles under our feet. A few weekends ago while heading up to Loveland Pass I picked upĀ  a cool hiking map and I opened it up today to find the most Elliott-appropriate (easy) trail. This turned out to be a lovely 4mi loop on Rabbit Mountain called Eagle Wind Trail. There were spectacular views, and as it was a loop, we got a 360o tour of the surrounding area. The terrain was pretty easy, and there was a total of about 475′ of elevation gain throughout the hike. Murphy loved it, Julie had a great time, and I couldn’t put my camera down. Photos of our first Colorado hike can be found here. Hope you had a great weekend too!

We’re Back!

Torii

Julie and I have returned from Japan (it’s been about a week now), and I’ve finally, finally, made it through all of my photos and edited the keepers. So, I encourage you to check them out here.

We had a great time, saw so many cool things and I even managed to hit my head 5 or so times on various low overhangs. But, it’s great to be back. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Photos of Rosie on the Beach

[[Image: For Serious/Rosie at the Beach/Rosie 23.jpg | 420]]

I had a lot of fun last weekend doing photos for a lovely gal named Rosie. We went to Bill Baggs park on Key Biscayne and had to traipse through an in progress wedding to find a spot on the beach not completely overrun with sun bathers. All in all, it was a great shoot and I’m really pleased with the shots. You can check out the rest of them over on Flickr by clicking the icon below.

Happy Super/Fat Tuesday

Hello all. I realize I have done a terrible job of keeping things tidy and up to date around here lately, and for that I sincerely apologize. Of course, it would be ridiculous to completely fill you in on everything that’s been going on, so I’ll condense the key points and present them in the form of bulleted briefs.

  • Happy Super Tuesday, first of all. The latest I heard was that Obama’s pulled to an early 13 point lead over Hillary in California, but it’s not even 12pm PST right now and there’s a long way to go. Fingers crossed for the big day, though.
  • Secondly, Happy Fat Tuesday. Because I’m in Miami, and not in New Orleans or Rio, there’s not much for me to say on the subject. For my British friends, enjoy your pancakes.
  • I’ve been dating an absolutely wonderful girl for about a month now, and I have to say I’m very happy and excited. There are more remarkable things about her than I could reasonably fit in here, but I will say that she speaks Japanese (way cool), has a razor-sharp sense of humor, and is gorgeous. I’m a lucky dude.
  • I made it back to Portland a couple of weeks ago for a weekend ski trip with Julie (the absolutely wonderful girl). It was an awesome, impulsive, thrilling and relaxing thing to do. I’m now a particular fan of last minute trips. I’ll post some photos at some point.
  • Speaking of photos, I’ve been trying to shoot more recently. I got a new lens a while ago and I’ve really been trying to step it up a bit. I had a day in the Everglades recently where I got some nice shots, but not much. Then I had the chance to shoot Rachel (see the post below) a week and a half ago. There’ll be more to come. I’m working on moving most of my stuff to Flickr, so that’s where you’ll find any new stuff I post.
  • The MINI is doing great – almost ready for it’s 2nd Level I inspection. And I recently noticed my tags are good through February 2009 – so take that Florida, I’m keeping my salmon plates.
  • Work is great! Thanks for asking. I’m transitioning from the buying side to the planning side and am coming up on my one year anniversary (that blows my mind). Maybe there’s a new pair of agency flip flops in it for me?
  • Oh, and, Comcast can go suck an egg. I’ve had it with them.
  • That is all.

A Day at the Beach

[[Image: For Serious/Miss Kenya/2224065409_8abefb9f80.jpg | 400]]

I had the pleasure of photographing Miss Kenya this weekend here in Miami, and I have to say, it was a great shoot. I haven’t fully edited all of the photos yet – that could take some time. But, I have got a start on everything, and you can check out some of my fav’s on Flickr by clicking the Gallery button below. Also, if you follow the jump, I’ve put a few more in this post.

Still Alive – Funny Quote

Yo. I am still alive. I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while. Work has been, how shall I say, occupying as of late. I did get sent out to LA two weeks ago and got a few good pics. I haven’t had a chance to post any to the site (but I’m sort of migrating everything to Flickr as of late – not sure exactly how that’s going to work). Click the button below to go check those out. And speaking of LA, I’d say I got out of Dodge in the nick of time. My flight left just as the truck accidents happened, and now the fires. Scary stuff.

And finally, I thought I would leave you with this quote. It’s one of those lines I wish had been in my vocabulary all my life – would have helped me a great deal.

With that said, I must get back to work. Tata, ya’ll.
